The Gathering in Honouring Parents

The work gathers Qur'anic verses on honouring parents, thanking them and praying for them, within a composition that brings together eleven styles of Arabic calligraphy. It opens with the Basmala, and its meanings move through devotion, mercy and the seeking of forgiveness, arriving at a prayer for the righteousness of one's descendants.

The execution was preceded by research into the texts and the relationships between their meanings. At the heart of the composition is the prayer "My Lord, forgive me and my parents" in Thuluth Jali, surrounded by texts whose varied rhythms come together within a single structure. The artist's signature enters this meaning through his prayer for himself and his parents.
