Short biography
Mahmood Al Abadi is a contemporary Emirati artist whose practice is rooted in Arabic calligraphy. He explores the relationship of the letter to meaning, material and space through calligraphic, painterly, sculptural and digital works. His practice combines knowledge of the letter's principles with experiment, and Emirati identity is present in it through text, memory and place. His works include Tolerance, Love Without End and The Gathering in Honouring Parents, and his work My Lord, Make This Land Secure received the Al Owais Award for Creativity in 2025.
